Daily Tech: Nvidia vs Ati

Excerpts from Tom’s Hardware:
- While the Geforce 8800 GTX /Ultra performance lead over the Radeon 2900 XT and the Geforce 8800 GTS was not as pronounced under Windows XP/DirectX 9, they offer between 50 and 100 percent more performance than these cards under Vista/DirectX 10. These cards pack a major punch and still have some performance reserves.

- Of the mid-range cards Geforce 8800 GTS and the Radeon HD 2900 XT, the Geforce 8800 GTS 320 has a minor advantage in performance and a major one in pricing, while the 8800 GTS 640 is much quieter when compared to the 2900 XT.

- The Geforce 8600 currently looks like the better choice than the Radeon 2600.

- The Geforce 8400 GS, 8500 GT and Radeon HD 2400 all run DirectX 10 game flawlessly without FSAA and with graphics quality setting no higher than medium to achieve playable frame rates.

Agence France-Presse, October 12, 2007
SINGAPORE — Singaporean celebrities are rapping for repeal of a law that makes gay sex a criminal offence. The celebrities appear in a video posted on the YouTube website in support of a Singaporean legislator’s push to repeal a law making gay sex a criminal offence, activists said Friday. “Repeal it!” the celebrities urge in the video which ends with the words: “It’s not just a gay thing. It’s about equality.”

Daily ChioBu: Aya Hirano

At 20, Aya Hirano 平野綾 is probably every otaku’s favourite Seiyuu and J-pop singer. Her big break came in 2006 when she was cast as the voice of the title character in the immensely popular The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which bagged her a Best Newcomer award at the first Seiyū Awards. Her CD single Bōken Desho Desho? containing the opening song of the show also sold out in Japan on the first day of released. Her popularity was confirmed when she successfully released her first photo book “Stairway to 20”.

Aya Hirano has just released her second photo book “1/19 Bmp“. Her latest single “Love★Gun” (a typical Aya punk/rock number) was released recently while two other singles will be released before the end of the year.

Pictures of Aya Hirano, the anime that made her a household name among anime fans, and a live performance of the song God Knows after the break.

Daily ChioBu: Andrea Fonseka

Andrea Fonseka, 22 was born in Penang. Crowned Miss Malaysia Universe in 2004, she was, due to her size at the time, rather unkindly dubbed the most chubby Miss Malaysia Universe in the pageant’s history. A deal with Marie France changed everything. The 180cm beauty shed her extra kilos and her star has since risen steadily. She is currently a final-year law undergrad in NUS, and can be seen on the covers of numerous magazines and on TV shows.
