About CPF Life. The government seems to have listened to us by giving back the money to family members when one dies, but in actual fact, the scheme is still compulsory. As long as it is compulsory, rules can always be changed later when Singaporeans have gotten used to the idea of an annuity. I see a repeat of the GST strategy – slow incremental steps sweetened with artificial sugar.
This is for the government: If what you have proposed is really good and benefits the citizens, there is no need to make it compulsory. Based on feedback from individuals interviewed by the ST, shouldn’t you be more confident that the people will take it up once they have digested the implications?
Forcing us to spend our money the way we might not wish to, isn’t that a violation of basic rights of a citizen? Give us a choice. You will be surprised how many more hearts you will win.

Well said. To add to that, if a person has managed to survive to a ripe old age of 65 in a country like Singapore where everyone including CEO’s, monks and politicians are out to get your money, I think he has earned the right (not a privilege) to decide for himself what to do with his own money, don’t you agree?

There is no doubt that ‘more choices’ were given after much vehement outcries from the people, but compulsory makes all the choices obsolete. To give an analogy; it is like giving you many new highways to ease your travels and everyone you use has ERP Gantry!
