What is the big deal about what Walter Woon said? I don’t think he is condemning human rights, or all HR activists.

The big deal is that what he said has been taken out of context, rephrased and distorted.

Take for instance, his actual words on “fanatics”:

Noting that human rights is “now a religion among some people”… - TODAYonline, Friday 30 May 2008. He mentioned “some people”.

But browse through some of the “hottest” blogs around, you will find it has been singled out as “human rights is now a religion to fanatics” or variations to that effect.

Perhaps we should all read more about Discourse Analysis before we shoot our mouths off at every little hint or opportunity to condemn people we assume as having sold their souls for money and power just because what they say does not go down 100% well with our agenda.

That is why I am beginning to take some bloggers less and less seriously.

Sigh, I miss the Brotherhood and their articles.

    Heroinguy,

Thanks. It’s good that they have finally set up their own Free Internet Library. To NLB - neh, neh, neh, neh, neh…

But they aren’t writing anymore :(

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Sian ZZZZZZZZZZZ Pak Bang! I’ve never been so bored in my surgery bfr on a weekend. I don’t think they can write any more. What many people don’t know about BP is the readers themselves are the main contributors. The writers are only assemblers. It’s like one giant WIKI before WIKI’s came in. That’s why some article can even run 6 to 7 pages. If you look closely every article carries EP or EV at the ending bfr the gobble-d-guck numbers.

EP stands for Executive Paper. EV for Extended Version. I may be wrong abt the exact term, but in principal the gist is correct. So for instance one 3 page article published in EP can run maybe 30 to even 40 pages in EV mode. I don’t believe you can just pack up something as interactive as this and still get it running again.

When their readers no longer comment. Or feel the need to contribute their thoughts. Or get the thrill of seeing them published. When those writers like Harphy Boy, Astro Boy etc don’t regularly read our comments and consolidate them into essays. When these things aren’t regularly done day in and day out.

Usually it just dies off. As time goes by, the skills die off. No one takes pride in it. It will just rust. It took them 2 years to build this thing called Toyota, JIT or machine writing. I remember Bambi Boy was so proud of it as he developed it based on his rudimentary know how on automotive manufacturing gobble-d-guck. The whole idea was writing could be like building a Japanese car. There were specialist for engines, paint work, Quality Control, conveyor lines along with warehousing.

    Their productivity was unmatched.

I really don’t think that sort of thing can just stop and come back again. Usually it rust. It gathers dust. People forget about them. They move on to something else. It’s dies. That’s sad. So sad.

  5. Apuleius Says:

But the key lies in the appreciation of the term, “almost.” They “almost” made it. Good “almost” triumphed over evil. By a wonderful alchemy, the various materials that the brotherhud press gathered and polished through the years into the alembic of the imaginative is indeed staggering and impressive. I dont even know an equal that can compare to their depth, breadth and level of detailing.

For one they ignored the classical unities of academic convention and what it means to blog, they certainly set their own course. They kept to the 3 to 4 page script. That means many of their traditional readers will not be induced to switch over to other reading material. This is not a case of if we cannot get lobsters then we will eat mud crabs. I think many readers will just log off after this. I seem to get the feeling the net has certainly become a quieter place since they slipped away in the night.

This is both a blessing and a curse. Now that the curtain call is finally in the keeps. My only wish is the writing spirit will live on. Even that will be difficult. For one sites like TOC used to openly discriminate, marginalize and even sideline them. One can only guess at the level of acrimony. It’s fair to assume none of those writers will even consider joining them.

The only other bet is the Singapore Angle run by Dr Loy. H.C. I happen to know many of the BP don’t regard them as an enemy site. Many even spoke out openly against Darkness when he tried to brand them as anti-brotherhood. In one crucial respect the portraits remains incomplete. Let’s all hope gifted writers like Harphoon, Scholarboy, Astro Boy and the only rose in the fraternity, the lovely Aurora will continue to do the things they used to do.

My hope is they will continue to recount their fascinating story of love, tragedy, ambition, disaster, power, politics and above all what it means to write and to read.

It is so very strange to me. The people who claim to want to make the net a better place don’t even seem to know what it takes to make a better net.

All they seem to do so very well is to hide no end in their high walled ivory tower, pretending not to see, hear or even think. I wonder, if they are so numbed, insensitive and out of touch even with the online community BEFORE they get into power. What will happen once AFTER they are conferred power?

    Q.E.D

  6. Tan. Says:

    GOOD MORNING ALL!

HAS ANYONE CONSIDERED WHAT IF THE THINK TANK OF THE BROTHERHOOD GOES TO THE OPPOSITION?

I THINK THE FIRST THING TO HAPPEN IS WE IN THE YPAP WILL HAVE TO CLOSE SHOP.

BTW. I DONT WISH TO COME ACROSS AS A SNOOP, BUT DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN GET IN TOUCH WITH DARKNESS AND GANG?
