Regarding the following post, it is not new. I seem to remember reading it several months ago and even commented on it. Now it looks as if it has been mysteriously reposted with a new date and with all comments removed (I remember it was a long list). I was surprised to see it on the list here since it is an oldie. I am referring to this:

Daniel is right. It’s a repeat.
There is no need to get upset over accents. After all, I’d appreciate it very much if westerners tried to speak with the corresponding Malay, Indian or Chinese accent when attempting any of our local languages instead of retaining theirs. Otherwise, we may not understand or even misunderstand them.
Likewise, fake or no fake, a local might just be trying his/her best to speak the English language in the proper accent which is most easily understood by the listener. Nothing wrong with that.
In fact, many Singaporeans are unaware of their faulty pronunciation and intonation, and skip the phonetic symbols when checking the dictionary. That is why foreigners have difficulty understanding our brand of English.

accents are like durians, some hate it, some simply love that on-the-verge-of-rotting smell. some aussies hate nz accents, many americans hate canadian accents. nothing unusual or wrong about a local hating fake ang moh accents. personally I’m fine with whatever accent as long as it makes sense
