Say NO to internet regulation in Singapore.

October 17th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Dear valued readers,
In the past, whether gamers wanted to remain anonymous or reveal their identity online was their decision and theirs alone.
14 days from this notification, a bill known as “the Darkness Act” will be tabled in Primus by Harphoon.
Once this act has been passed, ALL gamers in the confederation will have to remain anonymous. If they wish to reveal their online identity, they can, only their membership will be forfeited - it will become law.
I believe the only reason why this bill has been tabled is, it is response to the anger felt by many in the confederation regarding Darkness decision to leave following the blogger 13 initiative.
This will serve as notification.
Thanks

Dear valued readers,
When Alex Au, Cherian George, Bernard Leong et al pushed the whole idea of community moderation WITHOUT regard to the anon community.
At the back of my head, I said to myself, “this will certainly provoke a terse, sharp and firm response from the bro’s.” My fear then was it would be limited to ONLY the brotherhood.
I never ever expected them to take it all the way up to the level of the confederation and affect EVERY single gamer!
IMHO, I hope that some in the confederation will speak up against the passing of this bill, as I believe whether someone wants to reveal their identity online or remain anon is a decision that they should have the freedom to make without fear or favor.
But I know better, since this matter is linked directly to the departure of Darkness, it’s a highly emotional matter and passage to law is a certainty.
This I consider very regrettable.

Hi Y2K,
I greet this latest development with sadness too. This is none of my business, but since the blogger 13 proposal. I have noticed some hard elements in the brotherhood have seized power. And these people are protectionist or isolationist, not really like Darkness? That is the general feel that I and others seem to get these days, there is a hardening. For some reason, not only do these hardliners see absolutely no reason why they should engage the rest of greater blogosphere, but they even baulk openly at the idea?
Whatever differences the brotherhood may have had with the C.George & gang. And to be frank with you. I supported Darkness on this. I told him, they should have at least provisioned for the anon crowd to get involved. I even posted it in Alex Au’s site, but it was subsequently deleted.
However, I don’t believe it deserves this type of “revenge” response. Bear in mind, you guys only number 0.001% in the confederation and you are pushing through a bill that affects so many gamers? Hey? I said hey? You kidding me or what? I realized many of you were pissed off that Darkness has decided to walk out and maybe this is some form of scape goating ritual that some of you have to go through to seek closure. But bear in mind, even as your asdf is consolidating the final report for aims, you are also not consulting them either! Or for that matter anyone in greater blogosphere!
So there you go, but let us leave it there. I didnt come here to start a fist fight.
My second topic is Darkness. It is well known Darkness wrote loads and most of it resides in obscure threads such as these,
http://singaporedaily.net/2008/03/01/sgdaily-roundup-week-9/
Perhaps if the brotherhood press is out of action, it may be a good idea for the free internet library board to resurrect many of these “lost” reads for the benefit of old and new readers. If nothing else except for nostalgia sake.
I am happy to see the intelligent singaporean is up and running again. I will do my part to spread the news for you boys. Keep well and I hope you all have better days ahead.

“However, I don’t believe it deserves this type of “revenge” response. Bear in mind, you guys only number 0.001% in the confederation and you are pushing through a bill that affects so many gamers?”
We live in a world of consequences. Did you really believe ppl like Alex Au and C. George could just have elided the entire anon crowd that accounts for nearly 98% of the online community?
Who is kidding who?
Let me share with you something, not even the govt of the United States of America can do that.
FYI every proposal that is forwarded to AIMs originates from the anon and over 90% of our tech comes from anon sources.
NLB can go and fuck themselves, no one cares what they think here, least of us any of us.
There is no revenge here. None that I can see at least.
I am just setting the record straight so that this ppl understand the facts of life. And they are under no misapprehension in future.
I can assure you of one thing, if AIMs wants to fail big time, all they have to do is come up with something similarly stupid as what the blogger 13 came out with.
I can guarantee you this singapore or no singapore govt, we will just deal with you and after that we will all gladly go to the UN.
This bill will become law. And no one can stop it.

Always remember we didn’t start this war. Infact, we did not want to escalate this arms race. This matter was force ontu us very much in the way a foot is thrust into our face.
What do you think anyone would do if someone went around like God almighty labelling others as a bunch of degenerates and cripples, this is not even special knowledge, it is common sense.
Once this bill is passed, it would mean every single anon blogger, poster and commentator in blogosphere will come under the protection of the confederation.
That is a very powerful lobbyist grp not in Singapore but in the whole gaming world!
If they move against one of us, they will move against all of us.
We will have balance of power, but always remember, I did not start this war. Bfr you begin pointing fingers at me, always remember that. But I have feeling, I will end it.
Good day

And let me tell you another thing. Don’t for one moment assume that just because someone chooses to be anonymous, he is a nothing. Don’t make that stupid mistake of taking the course of least resistance. Because if you are foolish enough to do that, god help you, fact remains no one is really and truly anonymous online and what if the truth were known? What if it was known that a man can earn 25K a month and possibly even max the curve on a 50K salary with stock options and that he can even sit as a director in a fortune 500 company, what if he is more qualified that you by a half measure than puts you in a nice citrus smelling pine box?
My advice is this, don’t test it, because if the truth be known, you cannot accept the truth. And that is as honest as it rolls out on a weekend. Your life, your existence will simply cease to have meaning if you really had to confront the truth.
Trust me, we are giving you the end of the deal, the best promise of redemption that you will ever get even from here to eternity – the promise of that your fragile world can even remain intact and whole – take it!

At the end of the day Harphoon is right - it will become law.
We have more brain power than the rest of you. All you can do is use crude and primitive psychological warfare on us by calling us a 5.00 am.
And we all know, you can just as well go and fuck your mother for six there, if you believe that will in any way change the way we do things here. LOL
You will never be able to impose your reality on us,
Never

What you may need to accept is this:
There is absolutely no incentive for us to cooperate with the rest of the blogging community such as those who form the blogger 13. Bear in mind, they cut us off from the entire narrative forming process and NOT a single one of them even bothered to explain to us why? Next time when you read what cherian george or alex au advances just remember they never gave you the anon crowd even the time of the day. So when they go off talking about this and that “rights,” just remember for all you know, they are just cherry picking their morality to fit their own nefarious ends. Infact, if you note very clearly on every single occasion they did not even link a single one of our articles. What are they trying to say. You don’t exist, unless you come out? OK fine, so this is the response, the response is we will never come out in the open in future and not only that we will pass a bill stating very clearly EVERY single member of the confederation will NOT be allowed to come out. How is that? Tell me what did they up with at the end of the day? You go figure that out, it will be law and that will be that.
Has it occurred to you, we may never want to be part your community? But always remember who pushed us away first and who threw the first stone? We have every right to defend ourselves.
It will be law. After that we can play, fall in love and enjoy sweet repose, but never before.

And all of you who oppose the passing of this bill would do well to ask this question.
“Bear in mind, they cut us off from the entire narrative forming process and NOT a single one of them even bothered to explain to us why?”
Even AIMs did not do that. So perhaps some of you who seem so clever to oppose the passing of this bill can answer the question; by what logic and authority were the blogger 13 acting under?
You see I asked a sensible question, but please don’t hold your breathe, nothing will come forth from this.
And when “nothing” comes forth, you really need to ask yourself, what will happen to you next time, if they decide to pull that sort of stunt again?
Think?
Give us the support, we will take care of your rights!

In this whole equation, you gamers need to understand one thing,
We dont have a problem with the govt; infact, the govt even asked us for our feed back on e-engagement and we will give it.
We do however, have a problem with other bloggers who think they can act alone without consulting other bloggers thereby sidelining our greater interest.
So let us be clear, the enemy is within and not outside.
This bill will redress the problem, I think.
If you want to resist us just because your claim we represent less than 0.0001% of the confederation that is fine, but who will protect you rights then?
Think about it and vote wisely.
All of you have one vote and in the good name of Darkness I implore all of you to cast your votes wisely.
Bear in mind Darkness never ever once turned any of you away, not even so much as once.
He asked very little in return, your understanding that is all, that I feel is not too much to ask when we (the brotherhood) need it now.
From 2008/10/19 at 6:37 PM
If some of you cannot tahan what we say, then please go and file a defamation writ.
And we will all gladly see you in court.
This does not in any way prejudice your civil and criminal rights.
Maybe some of you are so used to dealing with people with zero life experience or haven’t really begun to earn their own keep yet, that it’s almost expectant that things should go your way ALL the time.
But with us, we will just tell you to - yes, you guessed it.
Fuck off!
