Daily Tech: 30 Dec 2009

It’s a slow tech news week as everyone is celebrating. Except the folks in Microsoft. According to the US court, Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 infringed a Canadian company’s patent. Microsoft is ordered to stop selling Office 2003 and 2007 in the US from 11 Jan 2010. Sounds bad.

But before you start smuggling copies of Office 2007 to US and sell in black market, Microsoft has issued a patch to remove the portion that infringed the patent.

"It is pertinent for anyone who wishes to participate in any form of public discourse to (re)consider the dichotomy between right and wrong as well as to question the necessity of this particular schema which is anything but inevitable."
Molly Meek

"How does our Law Minister propose to promote greater political awareness in schools when there is active censorship and restriction of expression of political ideas?"
Ng E-Jay

"..even if their foreign employees want to rent any flats, they should do so from Singaporeans instead of direct from HDB! HDB’s job is to take care of Singaporeans’ housing interests and needs FIRST!"
Goh Meng Seng

"Are the poor better off after getting the extra help from the GST increase?"
Leong Sze Hian

This is it! The last weekend of year 2009! This week’s roundup and recommended reads after the break.
