Daily Tech: 29 Apr 2010

After weeks of speculations, it is finally announced that HP is acquiring Palm. That came as a huge surprise. Everyone was expecting (and praying) that HTC will be the one who acquire Palm. Or Lenovo, Dell or even Huawei. Nobody expected HP. Personally, I don’t know if Palm is saved now. I hope Palm don’t end up like another Compaq.

On other news, Google is bringing Android free turn by turn navigation to UK. iPhone most likely not getting any free turn by turn. See! That’s what you get for trying to sue Google’s friend.

Daily ChioBu: Aya Hirayama

Aya Hirayama 平山あや (平山绫) is a Japanese actress best known (to me anyway) for her roles in Water Boys, Tokyo Tower and Haruka 17 (as the lead Haruka). Hirayama is a protege of Japanese talent agency Hori Production, where she first auditioned at the age of 14. Under Hori, she learnt to sing, dance and act. She did photo shoots, TV commercials, TV variety show appearances and dramas, before making her movie debut in 2000. Hirayama’s latest film is “Kagehinata ni Saku” (Bloom in the shade), where she plays a struggling pop singer in Akihabara.

It seems like an Apple employee lost the new, unreleased iPhone in a pub. Someone picked it up and sold it to Gizmodo. There is hardly any doubts that its a fake now as Apple has written to Gizmodo requesting the phone back. But I’m not sure if Gizmodo will still be invited to any Apple event in the future. We’ll see.

Personally, I think it’s the real iPhone. But it is most likely a Prototype with rough edges. I don’t think Apple will ship a device with a seam/gap at the side. They would most likely use a single piece of metal. The hardware would most likely be the same. The look will most likely be improved. We will know the answer on 22 June when Apple is rumored to be releasing the new iPhone.

Oh, and if that iPhone is for real, then I guess all Telcos should start stocking up on MicroSIM card. Else we will all need to cut our existing SIM card down to MicroSIM size. Damn, I hate this MicroSIM thing.
