I dont think that riding on the back of lorries are the source of the problems. This is a rather heavy handed and stupid way to solve the problem. In the same coin I would say that since vehicles are the cause of accidents, then we should remove vehicles and return to walking and cycling.
Rather, the real solution to reduce the severity and incidence of such accidents is to implement a set of safety requirements that are easy yet practical.
- All vehicles can be fitted with seat belts to ensure the passengers safety if the vehicle happens to make a sharp turn. It only need to be those simple seat belts where one belt can tie all the passengers on one side
- The driver of the lorry should also be given more training, especially on road safety and situational awareness. Note that the focus was on the mode of travel instead on the driver competency. For all you know the driver might not have much driving experience or is unused to the vehicle’s functions.

Hi abao :)
Not just better driving skills but also patience and care on the part of the driver for the safety of the workers being ferried.
Safety belts on the back of pickup trucks – not sure how practical that will be tbh.
