    Tay Lim Tin:

Hi I have an article and I don’t know how to send it to you neither am i a blogger. Could you please help putting it up on your site!

Open Letter from a Singaporean Son

    My Countrymen,

I have been reading the Straits Times on the General Election (G.E) recently with absolute astonishment on the way People’s Action Party (PAP) has been trying to strong arm us, the hard working Singaporeans.

The level of politics have escalated from bullying the opposition to trying to cast aspersions on the integrity of those running against them. Interestingly, special features are done by the media to elevate the moral and social values of P.A.P candidates.

As a Singaporean, I remember what our country went through to get to where we are. I remember rally speeches and news paper articles on many P.A.P initiatives. I remember the History of Singapore and I am a part of that History and Legacy. I am a ‘Singaporean Son’.

I have always voted P.A.P and have done it with my eyes open. I have a great family and a great job so I do not want to rock the boat.

But, the recent rallies, debated and mudslinging has set me thinking. Let me spend some time here penning some points to ponder.

    The Leaders:

Straits Times (S.T) 25 Apr 2011 Page A9, ‘Let’s get wealthier folk to help less well-of: BG Tan’; The man states that we should get residents/students from wealthier estates to volunteer in less privileged areas. I would like to ask, does Singapore have less privileged areas? Why did the government, when building Singapore classify some areas as less privileged. Are they similar to slums? Can we call them first world slums or are they called the ‘Heartlands’. Do the residents/students in wealthier areas have more time than that of the less privileged areas? Do we all not work equally hard? OR do we need the help of Malaysia to keep the less privileged or elderly in the future with this BG Tan Chuan Jin in P.A.P.

If however, the learned scholar is talking about sharing the wealth, then his ideas are not original and new because great businessmen and financiers of the world came up with the idea, it is called the ‘Robin Hood Tax’.

Like many P.A.P candidates, their ideas are NOT original, many initiatives have come from other developing or developed countries and given a Singaporean flavor in it’s tweak. This tax is a great first world initiative and we should start with our Ministers and all the P.A.P candidates whose pay has astounded the Nation. They don’t live in the Heartlands or a HDB and they cannot, because their pay is too high to qualify for a HDB. I am however sure that they have relatives there and will help out their less privileged relatives. Do you really know the Singaporeans? The Prime Minister says they are the Servants and Not the Masters! I have NEVER heard of a Servants pay being higher than a Masters. What planet are you from?

MM Lee once justified the ministers million dollar pay hike, “You know, the cure for all this talk is really a good dose of incompetent government. You get that alternative and you’ll never put Singapore together again: Humpty Dumpty cannot be put together again… and your asset values will disappear, your apartment will be worth a fraction of what it is, your jobs will be in peril, your security will be at risk and our women will become maids in other people’s countries, foreign workers.” Straits Times, 5 April 2007.

What??? What kind of logic is that? Is it a rant? Are we supposed to accept that argument, since we don’t want our wives or sisters to be maids in Indonesia or Philippines or Malaysia? OR that anything else but the P.A.P and it is the end of the world? Even Nostradamus did not predicted that for the world but does it start with the P.A.P? Is Low pay equal to bad government? Nobody is talking about NO or Low pay, but the Highest paid in the world is a bit overboard. Where is the equilibrium?

When the argument suits, we are compared to Europe, if not we are compared to Asia.

Maybe, the point here should be getting the right people for the job. Scholars? Generals? Is that how we groom our leaders? World history, has shown that these are the types of people who have led in an Autocratic and Dictatorial manner. They are not in touch with the people and are usually the cause of an unhappy population.

This is exactly what we have seen with the Middle East where the Air Chief Marshal Mubarak (Egypt), Colonel Ghadaffi (Lybia), Military Governor Saleh (Yemen), Colonel Bashar Al Assad (Syria) and many more led their countries for decades causing dissent and unhappiness amongst the population. Monarchies have trained their successors and heirs through similar Military background and as we have seen, have almost been abolished/deposed or left to ceremonial or stately duties. Is this so far away from the Model system that the P.A.P has used. Which part of this can we call a democracy?

This brings me to the next bully.

Straits Times (S.T) 23 Apr 2011 Page A12, ‘Shanmugam to Worker’ Party: Reveal your real aim’, the Minister and Lawyer is using bullying tactics against the opposition. He knows full well that to have a democracy you need equal representation in Parliament.

Wikipedia says that a “Democracy is a form of government in which all citizens have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives. Ideally, this includes equal (and more or less direct) participation in the proposal, development and passage of legislation into law. It can also encompass social, economic and cultural conditions that enable the free and equal practice of political self determination. The term comes from the Greek word– (dēmokratía) “rule of the people”.”

Shanmugam as well as Indranee Rajah have asked, “what model does the Workers Party wants to see in parliament?”.

When you meet someone better than yourself, turn your thoughts to becoming his equal. When you meet someone not as good as you are, look within and examine your own self.”- Confucious.

Lets look within and draw some parallels and see what Model of Government/ Parliament we have in our beloved Singapore before knowing what we want!

Based on recent events, in Saudi Arabia, $40 billion has been given to the population to quell this dissent. Are we being given money before the election to quell dissent? In China, dissidents or activists who have spoken out about policies or the government have been exiled. Are there any Singaporeans you know living in exile or self exile? In the Middle East, majority of the key industries, like Gov’t Investment Company, Telco, Transport and Media are controlled by the Dynasty Family or Monarchy. Is Singapore in a similar situation?

On the 21st Nov 1943 Winston Churchill said ,”The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government whether Nazi or Communist.”

Can Singaporeans relate to the above? Have you heard of any story like this in Singapore’s history?

Well so far, we are modeled on a Nazi or Communist Monarchy or Government that chops your hands if you steal, squashes you if you open your mouth that will not hesitate to lock you up, if you do the slightest thing wrong.

Interestingly, Shanmugam and Devinder Singh (LKY’s Lawyer) were featured in the S.T. as Singapore’s top lawyers but we know that Devinder was earning alot! It is obvious that he rejected the P.A.P offer and the lesser Lawyer got the job! FACT!

Let me ask you Singaporeans, who made you ‘Kiasu’? Who made you ‘Kiasi’? Where does the ‘don’t want to fail or loose’ attitude come in? It only exist if the population is hungry or not content with existing situations and want something better. Is there something better than the P.A.P? So far NO and the P.A.P know that, so while we are waiting and complaining, the P.A.P field the obedient Military personnel and increase pay as a justification of the best government. Should we be thanking the P.A.P that we are not in an Earthquake/Tsunami/Cyclone/Tornado/Monsoon zone?

We Singaporeans are too busy trying to earn money and working so hard for our families that we get blind sided by the issues and the voting. We are too tired at the end of the day to be even bothered or worried about election and good governance.

One system ruling parties in the Middle East, China, Eastern Europe have all faced uprisings, while some may have been successful other Authoritarian regimes have been successful in crushing these aspirations.

So, Mr Shanmugam, why the bullying! Are you holding court? Will your fate be decided by the people? The constant hounding and badgering in the ST are all too common with tactics of a Lawyer and we all know what adage is given to such a profession expressly because of such deplorable behavior. The Minister is so worried that a hand full of people can take over the government in this G.E? Is he not good enough in his job that he has to worry? Was he really the best man for the job or did other well qualified and esteemed Lawyers refuse this job when asked? Shanmugam, with your high handedness, have you forgotten what your Master (PM Lee) has told you…. that actually, WE are your Masters. How can a lawyer swallow that!

Straits Times (S.T) 23 Apr 2011 Page A12, “Candidates track record more important: Ng Eng Hen”, now this is an excellent statement! If we as Singaporeans don’t give anyone else a chance, then how will they have a track record? Why is it that only the people fielded by the P.A.P get this chance to prove themselves? When a president scholar gets selected and studies hard, he/she knows that if you play-the-game, your future is set, money will be enough and life is going to be good. Are they doing this for the passion for service to country or self?

John Kennedy said to his countrymen, “ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country”.

If the pay was not so high would the P.A.P MP’s still do the job? Would that General/ Doctor/Lawyer leave their high paying job for that of serving the community? If the answer is YES, then we as a Nation are blessed and we don’t need to pay them so much as corruption will not be an issue and you will do it for the love of the people and the country. Then we have picked the right people. Is this the case?

Interestingly, the Opposition Parties have been beaten, ridiculed, pounced, sued, shunned and trampled upon yet they keep coming back for more. Are they stupid, gluttons for punishment or just plain committed and caring toward the people and country. They don’t earn the millions that the P.A.P get, yet some of them have even announced giving back some of the money to the needy. Are these the right people?

On the flip side, the P.A.P folks are asking for the wealthy to help the needy!! How Bizarre, How caring…. Which planet are you from?

Straits Times (S.T) 24 Apr 2011 Page P8, ‘Strange Bedfellows in SDP team’, here is a smart looking young man like Vivian Balakrishnan resorting in the political tactic of the westerners. Reminds me of a phrase used by Wong Kan Seng “maybe he’s been watching too many movies!”(ST 25 April P7).

Let ‘s recall what MM Lee said on 24 January 2011 about the P.AP ‘Gay” MP Indranee Rajah, “ Her private life is her private Life”. Strange bedfellows indeed Vivian. Now the replacement candidate Mr Baey, also a ‘gay rights’ supporter. A play of words, by Vivian, very nicely said but then a counter attack by S.D.P on the extreme over budget of the Youth Olympic Games by the Minister. Is this the ‘track record’ that Ng Eng Hen was recently talking about during his walkabout in his GRC as well as Dr Amy Khor during her walkabout (S.T. 25 April, A9).

Interesting, how if the P.A.P does well, then they shout ‘track record’. If they goofed, they go into a rage, as Vivian has shown above. I don’t remember the opposition, being under handed and talking about Mrs Goh’s intimacy and support with TT Durai or the younger Goh’s SARS debacle! I’m glad that the opposition don’t stoop to these low standards in politics.

When the government faltered, did the opposition hold petitions, banners and decry and denounce the P.A.P government? None was heard!

If we were to talk about ‘Track Record’ like the P.A.P is talking about then, Vivian Balakrishnan, Wong Kan Seng, Mah Bow Tan and Khaw Boon Wan MUST all be sacked! That does not mean the government will fall. They have two more Generals and a Rear Admiral, with lawyers in tow, to help our Prime Minister BG Lee reign over Singaporeans.

Straits Times (S.T) 24 Apr 2011 Page P7, ‘GE serious choice of the people, says MM’, and rightfully said words by our Founding Father. He is no doubt a smart man and the reason Singaporeans will accept the P.A.P. MM Lee is the LAST stalwart of the founding members of the P.A.P. Singaporeans respect him but Singaporeans also have their limits on how much they will be pushed. MM Lee in the above mentioned article states that “Singapore would not be where it is now if voters had picked wrong candidates”. This statement shows us that the old guard, like MM Lee had made many decisions for Singapore that had already charted the country’s course. All that was left to be done, was to steer it right and steady, open up the country more culturally and economically, which the P.A.P have done very well. So then, we don’t have to worry because Singaporeans should be happy. Are they happy?

Well there are two ways to win an election. Discredit the opposition OR genuinely keep the residents happy (by money or by improving their daily lives)! Doing both does not work with a good persons conscience because the first one is a has to be a conniving individual and the second one is a socially apt person. One is a Snake and the other the Sheep. You can now judge your Electoral Candidates!

“It isn’t that they can’t see the solution. It’s that they can’t see the problem” – G.K. Chesterton.

    The Issues:

Let’s ask…Why are Singaporeans dis-satisfied or unhappy? Straits Times (S.T) 27 Apr 2011 Page A9, ‘Mah expects to lose votes over flat prices’, this is a true and honest statement by the P.A.P minister. He expected this because it is the truth! Mah Bow Tan has heard these grumbling voices in the past, but, election after election the prices go up. Now during the election he shows us data on flat affordability. Mr Mah obviously does not live in a HDB Flat or earn minimum wage. On a recent walkabout he was asked about this issue but instead he answered with “Tampines needs more parking space!” What? Afford a car with high COE? Did he answer the Question?

The article on the same page mentioned above, shows makeover plans for a few other GRCs, how convenient. WE Singaporeans must look stupid! Is Mr Mah’s ‘track record’ Good or Bad?

Then in the Straits Times (S.T) 30 Apr 2011 Page A10, ‘Mah: Data shows Hougang flats fetch lower prices than Aljunied’, What a low attempt to discredit the opposition. Why don’t we compare East Coast to Aljunied? Then you will see what George Yeo and Mah’s ‘track records’ are like! WE Singaporeans must look stupid!

Again, Let’s ask…Why are Singaporeans dis-satisfied or unhappy? Straits Times (S.T) 27 Apr 2011 Page A5, ‘Singapore will be the hardest hit among 10 Asian nations, if food and fuel prices continue to soar, according to a report by the Asian Development bank’, it is evident from the prices we see at the supermarket and at the Hawker Centers, that costs have gone up. Nothing is done by the Government or the NTUC regarding increasing the minimum wage. Instead, we have the top people of NTUC (Mr Ong Ye Kung) running around as P.A.P candidates. Isn’t the NTUC supposed to be championing Singaporean workers rights and salaries OR is it just to run Insurance companies and open supermarkets that charge high prices. Why should ‘Seng Shiong’ (now a Lee relative) be cheaper than NTUC? What is Lim Swee Say doing about this, election after election. Is Mr Lim’s ‘track record’ Good or Bad?

Only now, does the government think about the aging population and retirement ages of the workers. There seems to be NO retirement age for an MP, maybe the elderly might consider this as a potential field of work. Since ‘Track Record’ doesn’t seem to be the forte of our current officials.

The government initiatives like ‘share and grow’ and ‘comcare’ have received positive feedback and at least the people behind this have done right by Singaporeans. Kudos to those people, you have my vote. Please don’t lead us to believe that your ‘bursary and scholarship’ programme is altruistic, but simply to field the next generation of P.A.P members. I would like to here ask, would an underachiever get a scholarship or bursary?

Once more, Let’s ask…Why are Singaporeans dis-satisfied or unhappy? Straits Times online 11 Feb 2011, ‘Concerns over medical costs and ‘silver tsunami’, this very real topic and a key in the recent budget debate, where even the government agrees that there is a problem in the Medical field. Waiting times at Polyclinic’s are horrendous for certain treatments where patients are advised to go across the border.

Straits Times Online 16 Apr 2011, ‘MPs not out of touch with Singaporeans: PM’, Media freelancer Danny Yeo asked our PM Lee: ‘How many ministers and MPs live in public housing and take public transport? Are they out of touch with ordinary Singaporeans? How can we feel that you understand us?’

Said PM Lee: “You can be an MP or a minister, but if you cannot communicate with your voters, you won’t be able to get their support. Every MP knows they must win votes if they are to continue in their posts”.”They do block visits, grassroots and community work and should be able to understand residents’ concerns. If they don’t live in this environment, then there’s a problem. But this in Singapore, we take our grassroots work seriously, so I think we understand the situation of Singaporeans”. Did he answer the Question? “Should be’ and “There’s a problem”.

Do the MP’s only go to the Hawker Center during election time or meet-and-greet sessions? My MP has a police escort during the meet the people session so I don’t think that he sits at the coffee shop eating Bak Chor mee or Prata in the morning and chit chatting. It’s like a story book tale where the Prince comes out once in a blue moon to see the people, take pictures and then go straight back to the castle.

Schooling in Singapore is getting tougher and tougher. Kids are being sent for extra tuition. Can the parents afford this? Instead of getting feedback from Singaporeans, on the 3 May 2011 P.A.P Boat Quat rally, Intan Azura defends the educational system by citing one report and comparing Singapore to Vietnam and its neighbors. Put when we talk about Expenditure, Cost of Living and Pay, they compare Singapore to the West!

There are so many reports in the public domain by international organizations that cite Singapore’s education deficiency. Here is one:

“So says a report on education issued by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). It also looks at the education systems in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Japan, Ontario, Finland and Brazil. The report says: While Singapore has significantly closed its achievement gaps and focused on bringing up the lowest achievers, there is still a stronger correlation between socio-economic status and achievement than Singapore education leaders would like.”

    And Another:

“TIMMS TEST INTERPRETATIONS – Several possibilities have come to surface as to the reasoning behind Singapore ís TIMMS results. One of the reasons involves the classroom environment within Singapore schools and how it prepares Singapore student for the TIMMS exam setting. Constant practice and review of past examinations allows students to find themselves in a familiar setting within standardized testing environments. Singapore students enter the testing environment highly prepared for standardized examinations. 75% of the items on the TIMMS examination are multiple-choice questions. All of the others request short, closely defined responses.”

    One More:

“Within some of the TIMMS items, the limitations for multiple-choice answers are apparent. For example, Item 15 involves solving a linear system of equations but can be answered by substituting the multiple-choice answers into the equation responses. If this method is used this requires no mathematical understanding of the objective at hand(Atkin, 1997).It is well understood that these types of tests assess a very limited amount of student abilities. If goals and standards that strive toward creating a class environment where students work to attain life and job skills are priorities than the TIMMS tests do very little to measure these types of outcomes. When the United States decides that these goals are truly important it becomes much more difficult to determine which countries to imitate.

    You will like this one:

“Conceptual learning is not promoted in the majority of Singapore schools. The focus that is placed on exploration and constructivism within the National Council of Teacherís of Mathematics Principles and Standards for School Mathematics is almost nonexistent. Through constant, rigorous practice students are thought to eventually gain comprehension of topics that were initially taught in a procedural format. Most standardized examinations favor automated or practiced response. Countries who follow these types of classroom practices would receive higher scores on these types of exams. Students within the United States are not made to memorize much information, nor are they gaining a great deal of conceptual knowledge. This causes American students to go into these types of comparative test situations with a variety of handicaps (Menon, 2000).”

There are many other reports, just google it!

We are preparing the young Singaporeans to ‘pass exams’ and if they happen to learn something on the way then good for them. Our Generals in the SAF are trained in the same way, that is, to win a war by mock trials. Why don’t we just get the gamers playing War like games to try out as potential generals, because the good games have alot of skills and tactics in their arsenal.

    The Calibre:

The Election Rallies certainly give us Singaporeans its just entertainment in value. We see all sorts that, we cannot fathom, speaking for Singaporeans in Parliament. That is the reason Singaporeans throng to these rallies.

A conveniently deleted video of P.A.P Teo Ser Luck at the rally for Pasir Ris -Pungol has made it’s rounds on the internet as the worst representation of a MP.

The Facebook crowd has a page on “I do NOT want Tin Pei Ling in Parliament” and it has had a whole barrage of comments and supporters. This even prompted SM Goh to say that we should give her a chance to clean up her ‘image’.

The Boat Quay rally had Miss Sim Ann, talking about her new friend “Francis” who is disabled and how she got ‘foreign workers’ to help him down 6 floors every morning until the lift upgrading was completed. Residents there will tell you that the ‘foreign workers’ were Bangladeshi workers employed by the Town council to clean the blocks who used to do this under the instructions of the MP and Chairman of the Town Council. What about the thousands of other disabled Singaporeans who we have helped without P.A.P support? Where was the P.A.P? Fact, The P.A.P wont even waive taxes for vehicles that were donated to some charities!

    The Media:

Straits Times (S.T) 30 Apr 2011 Front Page, ‘if they choose the opposition, then I say, good luck to them. They have 5 years to ruminate and to regret what they did’.The word the MM used was “REPENT” not “RUMINATE”. Why did the National newspaper change the words. Have we just uncovered biasses in the publication? This statement has ‘irked’ SM Goh and PM Lee. Is there a rift in P.A.P. Do they think that Singaporeans are stupid?

After the ‘Apology’ by PM Lee, S.T. Deputy review editor, Chua Mui Hoong writes ‘Being a minister means being able to say sorry’, if this is not a biased piece of writing, then I don’t know what is! In fact, this article has been sent to the Washington post, New York Times and the Australian who will in turn send it to a few universities, by this writer, to review and study its biasses. Do they think that Singaporeans are stupid?

On the same day the headlines was “NWC: Give Bigger Pay Rises”. Why now? What has changed this year? Are we trying to buy the voters over with tactics like this. Do they think that Singaporeans are stupid?

The World Wide Web has many articles of interest about Ministers Pay, the high handedness of ex SAF Chief Chan Chun Sing, Singapore Monarchy, the opposition and many other articles. Here I would like to ask, Is any of it true? Where there’s smoke there’s fire! Do they think that Singaporeans are stupid?

“The key to change… is to let go of fear.” – Rosanne Cash.

    The Opposition:

Do we need an opposition? Many articles have been written about this issue by scholars and academia with lessons in history from world events. ‘Sound oppositions help keep excesses by the ruling parties checked. They provide reason for doing better. They also serve as insurance for not doing worse’, say’s Dr G Rauf Roachan. “Look at Great Britain where the opposition even includes a shadow cabinet”. You decide for yourself if opposition is needed!

Is the opposition any good? Have Sylvia Lim, Low Thia Khiang, Steve Chia, Chiam See Tong and J.B. Jeyaratnam been any good? JBJ and Chiam seemed to have the respect of the Government old timers and the Singaporeans. Newbies like Chen Show Mao, Kenneth Jeyaratnam, Sebastian Tan & Chee Soon Juan have yet to show what they are capable of doing outside the courtroom. There are more questions about the opposition than there are answers!

“I love opposition that has convictions.” – Frederick The Great, (Frederick II)

What about the controversies? We have opposition members mixing around with, clearly unsavory characters, like the lawyer Ravi and Gopalan Nair. These idiots stand on street corners and shout and hold talks that end up discrediting the opposition in the eyes of Singaporeans. The shouting that Dr Chee did in the last GE didn’t help his case either. Are the opposition clean?

What about their policies? Have they contributed to the better-men of the government? Have their voices been heard or have they been shut down? Do they only come out of the woodwork during elections? These are important points but to be able to show a ‘track record’, one has to be given a track to prove themselves. Since the P.A.P is not about to do that… It is up to the Singaporeans.

MM Lee is right in saying that, this is the best government, in and for, Singapore. We have felt our economic rise and our strength in the country, but, can it be better? Can the opposition help eradicate complacency? One thing is for sure, this General Election, the P.A.P is campaigning like never before.

“The task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been” – Henry Kissinger.

Unfortunately, our opposition parties are not united and therein lies the problem. If history has a lesson to teach in Singapore politics, our opposition sure hasn’t learned them. When the P.A.P went for elections, Lee Kuan Yew rallied the party and went for the kill…

Albert Einstein said , “If a solution is simple, god is answering”. I very much doubt that God was constantly talking to the P.A.P. If that were true we definitely would not have read in the Straits Times “PM says sorry”.

    What the People say:

So what are the Solutions? There are many ways to obtain this but are the P.A.P willing to work with the opposition, who carry the voices of the unhappy.

MM Lee has opened the gates for the opposition and this may just be a warning to his own P.A.P members who have had a comfortable ride on his curt-tails. Now 9 opposition members can sit in Parliament but still with NO parliamentary voting rights. It is a start and our Founding Father has led the way.

Singaporeans would like the government to know the people and engage them on the issues most dear to them. There is no need to be condescending or high handed.

Singaporeans would like the government to be above board, how do you relate to someone earning $1500 a month when you earn $50,000 a month. Your thinking and priorities in life don’t match.

The Leader has thought us well. The baby boomers voted for Lee Kwan Yew correctly, because he made them believe in change. This is what he told them:

“Let us get down to fundamentals. Is this an open, or is this a closed society? Is it a society where men can preach ideas – novel, unorthodox, heresies, to established churches and established governments – where there is a constant contest for men’s hearts and minds on the basis of what is right, of what is just, of what is in the national interests, or is it a closed society where the mass media – the newspapers, the journals, publications, TV, radio – either bound by sound or by sight, or both sound and sight, men’s minds are fed with a constant drone of sycophantic support for a particular orthodox political philosophy? I am talking of the principle of the open society, the open debate, ideas, not intimidation, persuasion not coercion…” – Lee Kuan Yew, Before Singapore’s independence, Malaysian Parliamentary Debates, Dec 18, 1964.

I am a Son of a Baby Boomer and this is what they say now, “Son, it’s better the devil you know!”. We were thought not to believe in the Devil.

Singaporeans not stupid, we don’t need only scholars or military strongmen to run the government. The founding fathers were NOT scholars or generals so we know, that is not the direction that Singapore should take. Your Scholars and Generals may number 50 but the voters number 2,300,000 and more to come! Parliament may be yours but Singapore is ours!

Listen to us, we fear not the lightning bolt.

    Hear my voice, I am,

    A Son of Singapore.

    Majulah Singapura.

Yes, there is a need for an opposition so that diverse opinions can be heard. Yes, there must be changes for the young thinks differently from their elders.
But what has been said seems that Singapore is one of the worst managed country in the world, when in fact, the opposite is the truth.
The talk of the town seems to be that we have a dictator like Assad in Syria, our poor area looks like the slum in South America, our transportation system is unbearable the population lives in poverty, medical services is not available etc…
In actual fact when compared to Europe , U.S. and Canada, our personnal security is much better, we walk the streets without having to look over our backs, our housing is better on average than theirs, our transportation is world class, our health care is comparable to none, our economy the envy of the world which any country would love to have and that is comparing with the developed country.

The only thing I forgot was that Singaporean seems to be comparing to Heaven than to anything else on earth.

For the sword outwears its sheath, and the soul wears out the breast. And the heart must pause to breathe, and love itself have rest.
